RSS feeds have been around for a long time, but many website owners don’t know how to use them or what to do with them.

RSS (or Really Simple Syndication) is the method used by publishers to syndicate all of their content automatically. They really benefit the reader by enabling them to subscribe to your blog so that they get notified everytime you make an update.

What’s more the RSS reader (which is the software that you need to have to read the RSS feed) can take synidication from multiple sites and feed them to you in one place, so all of a sudden you get your own bespoke news delivered to you (either in a newsreader or by email) by your favourite websites, at exactly the time it is published (neat!), this stops users needing to manually inspect all of the websites they are interested in.

Feeds are a way for websites large and small to distribute their content well beyond just visitors using browsers, whats more the content can be shon in bite-sized pieces ideal for todays mobile technology.

So, you need to get your own feed set up so users can subscribe to you and get your newly published work. It is a simple process which I’ll outline below, but you might have to get your techie bobble hat on just for a bit…

1) Get your website feed (if you don’t know how to do this open your website and right click on your mouse, view the source code, then use Ctrl F and type in RSS, you’ll find your feed url. Ours is http://www.jckmarketing/feed

2) Go and claim your feed on feedburner (http://feedburner.google.com),

3) Under the publicise tab, go and activate the email activation so that your feed can be delivered by email

There are multiple ways you can start sharing this, using widgets on your blog, or updating via Twitter, the choice is yours!
