On the 5th day of Christmas JCK let me know a little secret about my SEO

The whole world of seo is changing, the rules have changed dramatically in the last 18 months, so much so, that whilst you still need to put the correct foundations in place actually your company brand and your personal brand are now just as important as other factors you might already know about.

So one little secret for you to complete, to ensure that your personal brand is elevated above your competition and that is to become a Google author.

If you take the effort to complete this task (it won’t take you long at all) then every blog post you write (of course you are writing blogs!) will be attributed to you so that over a period of time Google will see you as an authority in your niche.

Whats more if your articles get to the heady space of page 1 of the search engine results page then your picture will appear against the article, giving you much more real estate than your competitors and a higher click through rate (if you missed our 1st day of Christmas then go and take a read here on the importance of space)

So how do you become a Google author….. Follow these steps.

  1. You need to get your rel=author snippets onto your website, its a really simple line of code, if you’re a WordPress user you are in luck as you can enable it in your author bios. Take a look at Google’s guidelines here
  2. Sign up to the Google’s Authorship form using an email address that matches you domain name. (just enter your email address and click the button – that’s it!)
  3. Go to your G+ Profile and click Edit then scroll down right to the bottom, add your company URL to the part that it says contributor to.
  4. Get yourself 100+ followers on Google+ and you’re done!

Next time you Google one of your articles your face will appear as well as the text…so if your face fits then use it  😆
